STUDIO 11:11

is an award winning design studio operating in multiple disciplines across Australia, New Zealand and The Netherlands. Exploring the boundaries between interior architecture, design and objects, we create a body of work with one collective narrative. No matter the output, what defines every 11:11 project are the notions of functionality, simplicity and craftsmanship.

  • [Functionality] is the foundation of each concept. The studio aims to create purposeful objects and spaces that serve the end user. Our designs are not void of aesthetics, but resist trends in favour of practicality.

We believe that [simplicity] is achieved through a process of distillation and refinement, unveiling the essence of each project. A sense of calm is created through use of a natural and neutral palette and paired back forms.

Working with local artisans and using the finest materials, [craftsmanship] is approached with permanence in mind, but always embracing the natural patina of things over time.

  • [Annabel Smart] Founder & Director, Auckland

Annabel is an Architectural and Interior Designer with a unique and curated approach to creating spaces that harmonise both form and function, inspired by her passion for the natural world.

Heading up the Studio 11:11 Auckland office, she approaches her projects with a thoughtful consideration of materials, aiming to create serene, warm, imaginative spaces for people to inhabit. Annabel has a reserved design sensibility, an appreciation for a natural palette and highly considered detailing, which is prevalent in all her work.

After gaining her degree in Architecture from Victoria University of Wellington, she went on to work at leading design firms across both New Zealand and Australia, setting her up with the essential skills and distinctive design style she champions today. Annabel’s portfolio speaks volumes about her passionate approach to design. Her projects are a testament to her belief in timeless designs that elegantly blend into their surroundings, something she attributes to a quintessentially New Zealand mindset. Her contribution to the design scene was acknowledged when she was awarded the Emerging Designer Gold Pin at the 2020 Best Design Awards, Designers Institute of NZ.

Based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Annabel lives with her young son and continues to nurture the growing Studio 11:11 team.

[Marijne Vogel] Founder & Director, Amsterdam

Marijne is an Interior Architect with a strong commitment to creating thoughtful and emotive spaces. Drawing from years of holistic design research, human connection and experience is the hallmark of each project she undertakes.

Working across two continents, Australia and Europe, Marijne carefully considers the context of each project. Location, history and the client’s brief is what informs her design decisions. She harmoniously integrates materiality, subtle volumes and light into each space to trigger the senses and create clarity.

After completing her Interior Architecture degree at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK, The Hague), Marijne relocated to Melbourne to work for a leading design studio and co-founded Studio 11:11 in 2017. Marijne’s fascination with 20th-century design led her to expand the studio’s portfolio with the introduction of the Collectibles range.

Mostly based in The Netherlands, Marijne works from her studio and showroom in Amsterdam.

    [Nathan Varga] Associate Director, Wellington

Nathan is a licensed Design LBP known for his collaborative, hands-on approach from concept to construction. He champions the use of local taonga, materials, and makers to create spaces that speak authentically of place, people, and story.

His design language is defined by uncomplicated geometry, natural materiality, and atmospheric lighting—resulting in timeless, emotive spaces that reflect the essence of client, brief, and site. He maintains a strong commitment to craft and context, often working closely with local artisans.

Nathan holds a Bachelor of Design with Honours in Interior Architecture from Victoria University of Wellington. After gaining experience in Architecture studios across Aotearoa and Australia, he now lives in Pōneke Wellington, balancing practice with family life and contributing to the local design community.

    [Alice Gascoyne] Studio Manager, Melbourne

Alice is a multi-faceted Studio Manager who has developed a refined knowledge and keen eye for detail and applied design.

Emerging from a Fine Art background, Alice completed her BFA from Monash University in Melbourne, majoring in sculpture and installation. Since then she has worked for studios, galleries and artist run initiatives across Melbourne, both in production and managerial capabilities. More recently, completing her Executive Master of Arts at the University of Melbourne introduced Alice to the business and operational side of design.

Appointed Production Manager for an illustrious lighting and furniture designer, she coordinated a team of 17 skilled artisans to design and produce bespoke fixtures destined for residences and commercial spaces around the world. Through this work, she fostered a deep appreciation for the labour and love of artisanal craftsmanship and bespoke fixtures which she expertly applies to all her projects.

Alice is based in Melbourne, working collaboratively with the wider Studio 11:11 team to bring carefully constructed and captivating spaces to life in the Australian market.
